Americana on my mind!

Hello friends! It has been a while since I wrote to you all, but have no fear. I am back! We have made so many changes around the shop here at Fabric Textile Products, Inc. and things are better than ever. We have started introducing new test products and so far our customers are pleased. We love when you guys are happy! Every week I will do my best to update you all on new products and prints we have added to the shop. For now, I just wanted to take a time to highlight one of my absolute favorite items – our American Stars Napkins! This is now the second year that we have offered these patriotic napkins and we cannot keep them on the shelves. I’m serious, ya’ll. These napkins are the real deal!

With Memorial Day and July 4th right around the corner, these napkins are perfect for cookouts, parties, and BBQs with the family. They launder well and will last you for many years to come. The navy and white star design resembles that of our gorgeous nation’s flag. I personally like pairing them with a red and white picnic check tablecloth for a real down home Americana vibe! This year we have also introduced the matching table runner! Those will be available in the shop very soon!

Seriously though. How adorable are these little guys?!

Summertime looks for the home!

Memorial Day weekend is here and the unofficial start to the summer season has begun! This weekend will be filled with trips to the beach, concerts, BBQ‚Äôs, holiday shopping sales, and plenty of fun in the sun. Being from New Jersey, my summer season means several trips down the parkway to the beautiful Jersey Shore. (No, you will not find me ‚Äúfist pumping‚ÄĚ with DJ Pauly D or anything that MTV has led you to believe.) Each shore town has its own identity and is full of beautiful little independent shops. My favorite thing to do while at the shore is to shop for new coastal-inspired items to take home with me and decorate my bedroom with. I am a lover of all things summer. Anchors. Mermaids. Sea shells. Boats. Tropical flowers. Bright colors. I am a fan of it all!

I have compiled a list of my top coastal finds to help get your home summer-ready! There’s something to fit every budget and every interest! It will feel like summer all year round!

Fabric Scraps: To keep or not to keep? That is the question!

DSCN1685

We’ve all been there before. You finish a really great¬†project. You notice a slight defect in the print. You have just enough to material with a little excess. You trim. You snip. You cut. At the end, you are left with a literal bundle of joy – a pile of fabric scraps, or remnants, if¬†you prefer.¬†(I like to think of them as leftovers, personally.) They’re large. They’re small. Some are square. Some are not so uniform. There are strips. They are pieces of all shapes and size. At this time you are left with the age-old question…What do I do with these?

As Hamlet infamously asked “To be, or not to be- that is the question…”, you yourself¬†may¬†be replacing “be” with “keep”. Leftover fabric is always useful in my opinion. There’s always something that can be done, so the pieces are not completely wasted. I have surfed the lovely web and came across several fun ideas for your little bundles of textile joy. Below is a list of my favorite ones. I have included¬†all of my finds, so just click on the picture for the original tutorial link!¬†Give them a try!

There are an infinite number of ways to put your fabric remnants to good use. These are just a few of my favorite projects, but the possibilities are endless. They can be used for crafting projects, home décor projects, no-sew projects, personalized gifts, and so much more. A little creativity can go a long way! Be sure to tell me about your favorite ways to use your fabric leftovers too!

Warm Regards,

Joanna

Happy Sunday everyone! Today is Major League Baseball’s Opening Day! I am super excited for baseball season to begin and hoping to see my San Francisco Giants win another World Series title this year! (We could have another Orange October!)

Be sure to catch the first game of the regular season tonight when the St. Louis Cardinals visit the Chicago Cubs at the recently-renovated Wrigley Field. Since today is the Easter holiday as well, many games are scheduled to be played tomorrow.

#TransformationTuesday: The Jump from Napkinsonline to Fabric Textile Products, Inc.

transformation tuesday

I am obsessed with social media. I love¬†sharing my¬†pictures on Instagram, keeping friends up to date with my Facebook status daily, and tweeting about whatever comes to my mind. Come on,¬†though. What 23 year old isn’t?! My day always begins the same. Turn off the alarm, get my glasses on quickly¬†so I can find my way out of bed without falling, and swipe right to unlock my iPhone. A¬†wave of emails, statuses, photos, tweets, and whatnot floods my brain for a few moments before I start my morning routine. While scrolling along this morning, I noticed the daily hashtag on almost every post I saw- #transformationtuesday. A light went off and the idea for today’s post came about!

“Transformation Tuesday”.

“Yes.”

“That’s it. I got it!”

Fabric Textile Products, Inc. is the place I call home Monday through Friday. I assist with shipping orders, taking care of our customers, managing social media accounts, shopping for new products, sourcing¬†new vendors, and whatever else may come my way, but¬†things weren’t always this way. Believe¬†it or not,¬†up until 2 years ago this company was a¬†just a 1 woman operation.

Flashback to 2007.

We began selling hemstitch napkins as Napkinsonline on the internet. Our products were well-liked and in high-demand by both commercial and home buyers, so we began to offer matching table linens. After a few successful years, we started selling leftover fabric scraps given to us by our sister company, Something Different Linen, Inc. and business really began to boom! From there on out, we sourced our own products and sought out the help of various vendors. Before we knew it, we had outgrown the little space we once occupied and needed more hands on deck.

Flash forward to 2013.

EDITED LOGO march 15

I joined the Fabric Textile Products, Inc. team fresh out of college as an assistant. The job had become too much for just 1 person and we were planning a move. By this time our product catalog included not only hemstitch table linens and fabrics, but also a wide array of textiles for the home. The keyword here is growth. We officially dropped the name Napkinsonline and became Fabric Textile Products, Inc. – a subsidiary of Something Different Linen, Inc. We launched a fresh website, left our small crammed space and settled quickly into a new larger location on the other end of town. And here we are now!

In just 2 years Fabric Textile Products, Inc. has transformed from a small internet operation into a full-fledged supplier of fabric and textile goods for all. Our inventory grows daily, our customer base reaches farther locations, and our name is recognized by so many. The only place to go from here is up!

Warmest Regards Always,

Joanna

We’re getting our Shamrock Shake on!

shamrock shake

Yes, I said it. We are getting our shamrock shake on. It just rolls off the tongue.

Happy March everyone! One of my favorite holidays is just around the corner. What holiday you may ask? St. Patrick’s Day that is! You may also be wondering why I enjoy it so much. Am I Irish?¬†Italian. Do I like the color green?¬†Not a fan.¬†Do I enjoy eating meet & potatoes served with a perfectly chilled beer? Absolutely! Who doesn’t?! I can go on and on about why I love¬†the day so much, but I don’t want to bore you all to death talking about myself. Whether you choose to¬†celebrate St. Patty’s Day or not is all your own. Here at Fabric Textile Products, Inc. we are firm believers in the idea that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and we are here to help with your holiday party planning! We are also HUGE fans of the delicious minty-fresh treat that McDonald’s rolls out for just a brief time every year… the¬†legendary Shamrock Shake. Get your green sweaters and bagpipes ready! We’re having a party!

It’s all about the green. Green clothing. Green decorations. Green drinks. Green rivers (If you live in the windy city, that is). Green everything. Instead of going overboard on the festive color this year, why not try a fun pop of color on your dinner table? Instead of bringing out Grandma’s favorite green tablecloth, napkins, and plates this year, try something a bit more subtle. I like the idea of a bold napkin on a traditional white plate. The good people at Better Homes and Gardens featured a how-to video on the four leaf clover napkin fold in 2010. I thought this was perfect!

clover napkin

How adorable is the clover fold?! I absolutely love it. Click on the photo above to watch the full DIY tutorial video. I would show you myself, but I would probably embarrass myself. You could try this napkin with any one of our beautiful Milliken Signature Dinner Napkins. I suggest Fern or Clover, but you could also use Hunter or Forest too.

If origami or folding intimidates you, a simple alternative works just as well. Try one of these other options for a fun touch of green!

If you are feeling crafty and would like to make your own, we have a great selection of cotton prints by Quilting Treasures in stock as well!  All items mentioned can be purchased directly from our shop. Hopefully you have gotten some ideas for your holiday table and are feeling lucky!

Enjoy your St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I know I will!

Slainte!

Love is in the Air!

ribbon heart

Ahh yes! Love is in the air! The “most romantic” day of the year is just about here. Cue the last minute trips to the gas station for roses and the 24 hour pharmacy for the anything that resembles a heart-shaped box of sugary treats. Don’t forget the Hallmark card while you’re there! We all kid and joke, but deep down in our hearts we do what we can to appreciate our loved ones. If that entails a $9.95 box of chocolates than so be it. It’s the thought that counts, right? Not everyone will be spending Valentine’s Day with their sweetie at a super fancy restaurant with a name you most likely cannot pronounce, but instead enjoying a quiet night in with friends and family.

Okay, so you’re planning to cook a nice dinner for your family at home. Awesome. The menu is set and the grocery shopping is done. Decorations? A few construction paper hearts made by the kids. Perfect. Now that just leaves the dinner table…

My favorite thing to do for any holiday is exhibiting my origami skills with a festive napkin fold. There are hundreds of ways to fold a napkin and there’s something for everyone, no matter what your skill level is. One of the easiest folds is the classic heart. It’s easy, takes just a few minutes, and will look beautiful on your Valentine’s Day table. No need to spend a ton of money on some new fancy napkins. Use something you already have at home! (You’ll thank¬†me later.)

I decided to take a few of my favorite hemstitch dinner napkins and try my hand at the heart fold. (For the step-by-step tutorial video, click here.) It was super easy and it looks adorable. I paired them with a few different table linens and placed the utensils in different spots. This is a highly versatile look. Be creative! Here a few different looks I tried. Which is your favorite?

If you want to take it a step further, why not make individual place cards for your guests? All you need is a few sheets of construction paper, a pen/marker, and a scissor. It’s a great way to get the little ones involved too! Add the place card to the center of the napkin or to the side of the plate and voila! It’s simple. It’s budget-friendly. It’s festive. It’s perfect.

I wish all of you a very Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope it is filled with love, happiness, and good company! Feel free to share your table decorating ideas with me! We would love to see what you have done!

With love always,

Joanna
